Club History
Barwon Soccer Club is a fully independent self-funded soccer club located in Geelong’s southern suburbs south of the Barwon River. The Club draws players from the suburbs of Highton, Grovedale, Belmont, Waurn Ponds and Wandana Heights. Barwon Soccer club is the only community based soccer club located in this rapidly growing area.
Barwon Soccer Club is completely unaligned with any ethnic, religious, nationality or cultural groups or organizations.
In 1993 Barwon Soccer Club fielded one team in the Western Victorian Soccer Association local Geelong competition. The Club has continued to grow over the following years to become one of the largest soccer clubs in Geelong. The Club is now in its 17th year if operation.
Barwon Soccer Club now fields junior level mixed teams, boys and girl’s only youth squads and senior men and women teams.
Growth of Barwon Soccer Club:
· 1993- the Club entered 1 team in the Under 10 Geelong junior competition
· 2000- the Club had 7 teams with over 100 registered players competing from Under 7 to Under 15 completions
· 2002 – the Club had 10 teams with 145 registered players from Under 7 to Under 15, including a Girls Under 17 team
· 2003 – the Club had 13 teams with 190 registered players from Under 7 to Under 17 including a Girls Under 18 team
· 2004 – The Club moved from it then home base at White Eagle Club, Breakwater to the Grovedale Recreation Reserve. The Club fielded 12 teams with 150 registered players ranging from Under 7 to seniors, including 2 Girls squads – Under 18 and Under 14.
Over 50 2003 registered junior players were given transfers to Breakwater Club’s newly formed junior teams.
2007 – We grew to over 270 players.
Goals/Mission Statement:
· To develop and keep a strong and robust soccer club as part of the local Geelong soccer competition
· To encourage more junior players, both boys and girls aged 6 to 18 to play soccer
· To assist other clubs and the WVSA in providing a full compliment of age level competitions from Under 7 to Under 18
· To provide a community club south of the Barwon River in Geelong’s southern suburbs
· To continue to support soccer – the worlds and Australia’s most popular team participation sport.

In 2010 Barwon Soccer Club has fielded 17 squads of players.
