Ground Works

During May Politicians from the Federal Government, State Government and Local Government, together with representatives of the Council and officials and players from our Club met together to make an announcement that jointly they were funding half the cost of a new synthetic half size pitch to be located behind the CFA building on the other side of the trees.

Announced by the State’s Sports Minister James Merlino, $100,000 of the money has come from the State Government through the local member Michael Crutchfield and $67,000 has come from the Federal Government via the Federal Member Darren Cheeseman and our COGG Councillor Andy Richards.

The works will consist of a concrete base overlayed with synthetic grass, fencing all around the pitch, footings for light towers, fencing for our main two pitches particularly along the Perret St side, plus higher nets behind the gaols. The half sized pitch will be lined up for half and quarter sized pitches, so it should be a huge asset for all our small sided games players

As we mentioned, the Government money is only half of the costs of all these works, the rest has come from our new sponsor Smartgrass an Australian Company specializing in the construction of synthetic turf for any use – sporting clubs, schools and back yards.

Smartgrass is singlehandedly matching the combined contributions of all levels of government with this project, plus more.

Barwon SC hopes the new pitch will act as display for the work Smartgrass can do and we will do anything to assist in this endeavour.
